Guidance - Change Your Name in England and Wales
Digital download change of name deed - instructions
This guidance is for an adult change of name only. If you want to change a child's name, please consult a solicitor.
Thank you for choosing an Online Divorce product to change your name.
Step 1 – Check your inbox
Go to the inbox for the email address you provided in the form. We have sent you your change of name deed with instructions on signing and witnessing.
Step 2 – Print your deed poll
You can print your deed on standard A4 printer paper. It will be accepted by UK government departments on any plain white A4 paper, as long as the print is clear and legible.
Print as many copies as you need to
- notify government departments including the passport office; and
- tell your bank/any other organisation
that your name has changed.
Keep one extra copy as a signed original. You will be able to copy this in the future if you need to, and have your copies certified.
If you don’t have a printer, you can upload your deed to an online print and post service to print and send the deed (and copies) to you for a small charge.
Online Divorce is self-service and does not post deeds out.
Step 3 – Execute the deed
A deed is executed once it has been signed as a deed, in front of a witness/witnesses and delivered.
